Sleep Dentistry

Many Patients experience high levels of anxiety when they are faced with going to the dentist.

For many fear of attending is the reason why small dental problems can grow into major issues,

Ultimately resulting in more invasive and costly treatments.

If this is you, don’t worry your not alone it is reported that up to 61 % people worldwide, said they’re suffering from dental fear, and almost 4 percent of them said they’ve never been to a dentist.

In addition to anxiety there are of course some treatments that are quite involved like full mouth Implants and other surgical procedures that will require sedation even for the least anxious and bravest of patients. Its simply better for both the patient and the practitioner that way!

So What is sleep Dentistry?

In addition to using local anaesthetics sleep dentistry otherwise known as Twilight Sedation is when a sedative is given intravenously to the patient and this relaxes them into a semi conscious state.  Intravenous, or IV, sedatives can put you in varying stages of consciousness.

“Twilight Sedation.” Is when you are less aware of your surroundings, you might feel sleepy, and you might not remember much of the procedure once it’s over. You will be able to understand basic instructions from the dentist such as “open wider” or “the procedure is going very well we are nearly finished” However you will almost certainly not remember any thing about the conversation or the procedure later.
